The following criteria is considered when making a decision for school closures due to inclement weather:
a) visibility
b) road conditions
c) wind-chill factor (-45 or lower)
d) extremely cold temperatures
The decision to close the school is made prior to 6:45 am. Once students have arrived at the schools, schools will remain open until regular dismissal time.
Media announcements shall be made by 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 pm. Any announcements will be through the following radio and television stations: CFAM, CJOB, CBC990, CKSP and CHSM as per RRVSD policy 1.3.
If inclement weather conditions arise during the day and buses are unable to take children home, students will be sent to their ”stormstay” location given on their registration forms. There are some families who have not designated a home in case of a storm situation. If you have not done so, please contact the school office at your earliest convenience. Students living within walking distance of the school (town of Sanford) should have a "stormstay" in place in case parents are at work or away for the day.
